Microsoft for Mac 2008 SP2 Update

Microsoft released an update for Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, dubbed SP2. Being the geek that I am, I didn’t acquire the software through legal means of course, so when I installed the update, I received a message saying, “The product key is no longer valid.”

I tried removing the two files associated with the product keys, paths shown below, but when I tried entering 14 different product keys, none of them work.

Mac HD > Users > Your UserID > Library > Preferences > Microsoft > Office 2008 > Microsoft Office 2008 Settings.plist
Mac HD > Applications > Microsoft Office 2008 > Office > OfficePID.plist

Has anyone else experienced this problem, or is it just me? For now, I’m reinstalling Microsoft Office 2008 from scratch, and hopefully everything will work.

UPDATE: Seems as though there are a plethora of problems with the 12.2.0 update (surprise, surprise). If you’re using a “nonofficial” version of Office 2008, do NOT auto-update. For those who already have, you can revert to 12.1.9.
